Subclass 300 – prospective marriage
A prospective marriage visa is intended for couples who are planning to marry in Australia and who can show that they have a committed relationship and are committed to a future life together. The visa requires that both partners be at least 18 years old, have been in a demonstrable relationship, have spent time together as adults and are committed to marrying within the nine months’ timeframe of the visa. In addition to marrying within nine months, applicants should be ready to prepare applications for the 820 and 801 Partner Visa sequence, described below.
Subclasses 309 and 100 partner visas

These two visas work in sequence and are designed to allow a partner to come to Australia on the 309 temporary visa while a decision is made on the spouse 100 permanent visa. If the partners are married, the marriage must be valid under Australian law; if in a de facto relationship, the rules listed above must be observed.

Subclasses 820 and 801 partner visas

As with the 309/100 visas, the 820/801 visas enable partners to be together temporarily, on the 820 visa, while a decision is made on the 801 permanent visa. Very similar conditions apply to both pairs of visas.
